A key goal for all Leaders is to develop others to succeed and deputise for them. For a Practice Manager that might be an Assistant or a Team Leader.
It’s about developing their skillset as leaders and managers so they can excel in their role, take their teams forward, and prepare them to move to their next leadership or management role.
There are a range of skills needed to be an effective Leader and Manager and it’s these you need to develop rather than task specific skills. Use a mix of education, coaching and experiential learning to give a solid foundation. It’s possible for most PM’s to lead the coaching and experiential learning, but external help is often a good choice for delivering the education.
If I’m leading the education on this I find it best to focus on these 12 areas, breaking it down into blocks that build on one another to reinforce and expand the learning.

📕 Vision, strategy, goals and objectives
📕 Effective Communication
📕 Managing Change

We need to develop the future leaders and it’s so rewarding if you can lead on this in your practice.
