Is your PCN pushing the boundaries?

How many Primary Care Networks are going beyond the DES and seeing the opportunity to be more creative? I’d guess not many, and suspect more are limiting their activities to what is directed.

Doctors hands consoling patient

It feels a wasted opportunity, the PCN DES is an invitation to explore and transform, not a restraining order.

It’s a chance to work in partnership, so why limit yourself only to practices? Why not a locum chambers, CQC support provider, community pharmacy, education provider, telecoms provider or medical records digitiser and more.

Think.

  • What would benefit the practices?

  • What would benefit the patients?

It can be difficult, so start by keeping discussions high level and look for where you can all gain.

Compare your business plans.

What Common themes or goals are there in everyone’s business plans?

Look at the resources you use and your current projects.

What business needs do you all share?

Look at the challenges and issues you’re facing.

Where do you have the same challenges and how could you overcome them together or in a common way?

Compare the obstacles to growth and development that you face.

What are the solutions that would work for you all?

Your PCN can be so much more for you and your patients if you want it to be.
