Leading the Recovery from a Crisis

We’ve been through so much change recently, the thought of more is daunting.

Yet as we start our recovery from this crisis, we face more change. We’ll have time to get it right, and to make it less painful, but we may not know where to begin and anxiety might make us hesitant to start.

If you’re providing the leadership out of a crisis, these 3 steps will help make it an effective and more comfortable recovery phase.

Think of the recovery as a journey with 3 things to consider before you set off.

1. Where are you heading?

·         Be clear on the destination and communicate it, positively.

·         Who are you going with?

·         You probably won’t be going alone and may need your PCN or ICS Partners.

·         What obstacles will you have to avoid and how will you overcome them?

2. What are you taking?

·         Involve everyone internally, and your external partners, in reflection and learning.

·         What’s been good and bad for patients, staff and your primary care partners?

·         Which new things have worked well and will be kept?

·         Which haven’t and will be left behind?

3. What have you got to get along the way?

·         What did you stop that you’ll re-start?

·         What should be improved?

·         What might you drop?

·         What do the team need for their own recovery?

It’s time to start your journey of recovery.
